"Ministering to the needs of the whole person -spirit, soul and body"

Greetings!...
The activities of this past month reflect the strong partnerships that exist between FVM, community leadership, government agencies, and other NGOs.  From building bridges, to meetings with the district commissioner, to helping in International Youth Day, these partnerships are instrumental in helping the people of Malawi and serving the communities where they live.
                                     NANDOLO BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION
The Chatani Bridge construction project in the Nandolo community has now been completed!  It was commissioned by Dan Hayhoe, John Rule and Joseph Brereton on Thursday, October 26th, 2017.  This is a huge contribution FVM has made to the community and the nation. Lujeri Tea Estate provided about 70% of the transportation costs of building materials and Chief Nandolo and community members provided about 50% of labour!!

Some highlights of the last month...
  • Preschool has 550 kids registered, with all of them receiving lessons and nutritious food. It is encouraging to note that the child care centres FVM has built in the communities are models in the districts of Mulanje and Zomba. The facilities help the community access several essential health and well-being services .

  • FVM, District Social Welfare Office, and Chief Taulo assisted a girl's return to school after she ran away from her parents because they were forcing her to marry. She is in grade 7 and wants to continue with her education, but her parents think she is old enough to marry. Culturally, most parents take pride when their girls get married and bear children, placing more importance on this than going to school.  FVM has significantly tried to help bring light to the importance of education in a girls life.

  • FVM participated in an event organised by the Ministry of Health where stakeholders were brought together to discuss mental health in the work place. The available statistics reveal that most hard working people do not rest enough hence compromising their mental health.

  • Weekly Radio broadcast of the good news on Trans World Radio has continued without disruptions. We receive very encouraging reports almost every day through telephone calls and messages.
