~COVID-19 and Malawi~
Newton reports “since our health care systems are quite poor, the chances are high that the nation is hit too. Activities that we carry out have been put on hold including student conferences nationwide, feeding programmes and community visits. The only programme continuing without problems is radio broadcasting.”
We feel the impact here in North America, but sometimes fall short of entering into global solidarity with those who do not have the resources and infrastructure available here. Many of you have reached out in love within your local communities to encourage, assist and walk beside (figuratively if not literally!) those most significantly affected.
“When one member suffers, all suffer together." 1 Corinthians 12:26
(Saint Paul)
“A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, knowing they belong to a greater whole and are diminished when others are diminished or oppressed.”
Archbishop Desmond Tutu
“God uses everything, and if God wanted us to experience global solidarity, I can’t think of a better way. COVID – 19 bypasses race, gender, religion and nation. Real solidarity needs to be felt and suffered – to allow someone else’s pain to affect us in a real way. I hope this experience will force our attention outwards to the suffering of the most vulnerable. Love always means going beyond yourself to otherness. ‘Perfect love casts out fear’ 1 Corinthians 13:13.” Richard Rohr’s Daily Meditation. March 19.
FINALLY WE WANT TO THANK ALL OF YOU who continue to support FVM through regular monthly giving. In times of economic uncertainty this is of great value to your Malawian family.
In solidarity,
Dan and Chris Hayhoe
