GREETINGS!
These last couple of months in Malawi our FVM staff and volunteers have been focused on "Building Brighter Tomorrows" through many initiatives that focus on education, health, and community support.  Eye care opportunities and HIV/AIDS discussions and screenings took place, as well as sports tournament which all help focus on health awareness.  Preschool programs welcomed new and returning children under the age of 6, all eager to start their education journey.  As well,  community projects such as the building of houses and Nandolo kitchen have been ongoing.

We thought we would take this newsletter to update our supporters on the progress of some of the projects FVM has been overseeing.

House Construction

You will remember the devastating effects of the floods from last spring and how many of our dear friends and volunteers lost their homes due to flood damage and destruction.  FVM has committed to helping rebuild 10 homes and as of this time 2 houses are under construction.  We introduced you to the Kazembe family back in July (click here to read their story and watch a short video).  Currently their home is under construction and well on its way to becoming completed.  FVM is also helping the Witness family in the construction of their new home.  See below for before and after photos!

Nandolo Kitchen

Back in June, 2019, the building of a new kitchen in Nandolo commenced with FVM volunteers and community members assisting in the excavation.  The building of a new kitchen was to help serve the community and the needs of the preschool feeding program that operates in the area (click here to read June newsletter with pictures and video of new kitchen construction).  Before the new kitchen, the women would prepare the food in an open space often hindered by the rainy weather.  Currently, the new kitchen is almost complete and all that remains is making a pavement walkway from the kitchen to the classrooms.
