 | Hi! I am village head Chinama, under GVH (Chief) Taulo. The coming in of FVM in this community has impacted me personally and my village with knowledge that development is holistic. Some highlights of the last month...
- FVM participated in the Candle Light ceremony organised by the Malawi Government through Zomba District Council. This is the oldest ceremony to remember HIV/AIDS victims on which the whole world commemorates the lost lives due the pandemic. It is aimed at bringing more awareness to the people about the dangers of the disease so everyone should be involved in the fight.
- FVM signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Malawi Ministry of Health through the Zomba District Office (DHO) on 28th June 2017 being given mandate to carry out health interventions within the country’s health policy framework. This is a great breakthrough that has taken several years.
- Training of women in tailoring continued. 40% of the trainees have now developed skills to make basic fashions.
- There was monitoring visit by government officials and civil society organisations to appreciate the work FVM does in the community. It was such a motivating activity that integrated stakeholders and partners in development. FVM does not work in isolation. It works with partners and stakeholders from grassroots, community, district, national and international levels in addressing the needs of the poor populous.
- Community members continued giving back the soybeans and the cow peas in the food multiplication program.
- The facility FVM provided continued to offer an environment for several social activities including under-five clinic (postnatal) services by public health workers.
 | Bridge Construction project FVM continues to work on the bridge construction that crosses Chatani River in Nandolo Community. The community has been participating in working on the bridge together. So far, the pillars have been completed and the concrete remains to be constructed on top. The major challenge thus far has been the scarcity of some building materials (such as timber and poles) and the exorbitant prices of the available materials. |
Nursery School graduation ceremony
Malawi’s school calendar runs from September to July the following year. The 2016/2017 school calendar ended on 28th July 2017. The nurseries schools supported by FVM also went to an annual break so that the children can be on vacation with their parents for a month. This provides the opportunity for volunteer care givers to refresh themselves after ten months of hectic work. But also grants parents time to spend with their children.
There was a graduation of 101 children from preschool to formal primary school. This was the 6th cohort since FVM started working in southern Malawi. More than 750 children have passed out through the nursery schools FVM is supporting since 2010. This is a great contribution to education development in the country which doesn’t have preschool facilities supported by the government.
