Greetings from the Warm Heart of Africa!...

While we are all celebrating the amazing gift of a bridge across Chatama River in Nandolo Community from friends and partners of FVM, several activities have taken place as well. FVM Canada has participated in a number of engagements with other stakeholders including the Malawi Government.  In the last month the following usual activities were successfully carried out: eye care services, sports tournaments, radio broadcasts, preschool & feeding, commemoration of People with Disability Day, and World AIDS Day commemoration.

We have received a gift of plastic plates for feeding the children! We are so thankful for donors who faithfully support the child nutrition initiative.

550 children continue to receive preschool education and nutritious food. Community members have been actively participating in preparing food and in helping support the education of their children.

EYE SCREENING

More than one hundred people underwent screening exercise of their eyes. 15 of them received glasses from Malawi Government through Lions Hospital under Zomba Central Hospital. 8 people underwent successful cataract surgery.

FVM has provided 30 iron sheets to the chief to help rebuild the roof.

SPORTS TOURNAMENTS & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

There were sports tournaments held in both communities where young people in primary schools (ages 6 to 19) were brought together to compete for a trophy and money. The aim was to entertain the community members and bring them together in unity...an important component in the development of healthy communities.  This event was also used  to teach and share important information on issues such as HIV and AIDS, education, general health and other psychosocial messages.

PRAYER POINTS:

-For continued coordination and communication between FVM and various government agencies and community partners.
