Following the Eye screening exercise which took place in May 2013, FVM, in conjunction with Blantyre Institute for Community Ophthalmology (BICO), distributed eye glasses to those who were in need of glasses on Wednesday, 26 June 2013. More than 25 people (list of the recipients to follow later) received the glasses freely, thanks to Dr. Kalua and partners such as Essilor who donated these glasses.
It was like a dream when the community members of Taulo received the glasses and they were so thankful for such a gift in their life. “Ifetu pamene m’mabwera kudzatiyesa maso timangoti mungocheza m’mene amapangira ena.” (we thought that you were just joking as many do), said Village Head Mphula who is under GVH Chief Taulo. The beneficiaries were so surprised that they were able to see and read. It was as if they have been reborn. What a joy seeing hopeless people becoming happy again.
Chief Taulo thanks FVM and partners for various developments taking place in his areas including the eye care programmes.
The gift of the glasses to the people of Taulo was such a joyful moment in their lives. It was an experience they will never forget.
