Clean Water Project Initiated in Malawi

3/17/2010

We went to Taulo yesterday (Tuesday, March 16th, 2010) with Lloyd Mc Dougall and his team from Emmanuel International to start the Bottled water safe for drinking project. The shelf (of iron sheets) was constructed. Villagers assisted so much. Next week (probably Tuesday or Wednesday on which the bottles will be put) we shall go for demonstration. The villagers were so happy they seem to value the initiative very much. I really thank Lloyd for his commitment.

I assigned the Senior Group Village Head (Chief) Taulo to call builders from his community who would come up with the estimate of completing the already existing Early Childhood Development building, i.e. an estimate of cement and labour, doors (two) and blocks for windows. Window blocks are cheaper but more durable than windows with glass. The sand is already there. Bricks for flooring and finishing are also available but the problem is transferring the brick from the oven (heap) to the site since the land is too wet for the vehicle to reach the place. Therefore, flooring may take off later in April (when rains are not as heavy as they are now). Plastering and door fixing can take off now.

Beginning with the completion of the block would help in rendering service in time rather than beginning with big construction projects which would not immediately address some of the intended interventions.

I had a meeting with Olive Msyamboza, government Social Welfare Officer who was ready to work with me in coming up with the cost of training care givers. This I hope would easily coincide with the building completion so that as soon as it is finished, children may start learning and being cared fore.
