The decision was made by the surrounding villages to “rebuild” it with their own men (and women!) power with support from Future Vision Ministries. The “new” brightly painted building, complete with windows, was officially opened as a nursery school on September 13th, 2010.
Attendance on the first day? 450!
Average daily attendance since then has been 435 tiny children receiving a nutritious daily meal of likuni phala (protein enriched maize meal). In addition they receive plenty of tender loving care and pre-school instruction from our four dedicated volunteers.
The building has two rooms which in North America would accommodate a maximum of 35 children each with two teachers and two assistants. That’s four qualified, well paid personnel for 70 children! In Malawi we have four unpaid volunteers happily caring for over 400 children.
“Built it and they will come”… did they ever!
