Greetings!...
January 2018 has been a time of planning and budgeting.  It is hoped that the year 2018 will be as fruitful as have been the years past. It is also hoped that partners, well-wishers and supporters will continue rendering their unceasing support. This year, FVM is focusing on some health initiatives, in particular HIV/AIDS and non-communicable disease programs. Malawi, just like most Sub-Saharan countries faces so many health challenges. Healthy people are the only assurance of continued social and economic development within a nation. Please join the team in such exciting noble tasks.
Some highlights of the last month...
  • More than 400 young people in secondary schools and colleges were reached with the Good News through Student Christian Organisation of Malawi (SCOM), an old partner organisation in reaching out the student world with the message of hope.
  • Volunteers of our preschool program were trained in various areas of child growth and got necessary skills to help them foster child development.

More than five hundred people were entertained with football and netball matches in Nandolo Area where a trophy and some cash prizes were given to the teams that participated. FVM Canada uses sporting activities to gather young people together in active participation, while at the same time using the opportunity to address issues such as early marriages, HIV and AIDS awareness, and education in relation to harmful cultural practices. Sports brings healing in all dimensions of life such as mentally, socially, physically and psychologically.

This past month 16 women and one man graduated from a three year training in basic tailoring skills and were awarded with certificates by FVM. They have formed four groups of four people to start generating some money for their groups while sharpening their skills.

Prayer point
Rains started at a promising note in November, 2017 and crop was quite promising especially in the Southern Region of Malawi.  However, drought of over 40 days scorched the crops thereby causing a threat to food security. Ministry of Agriculture is assessing the damage but obviously there will be hunger from March this year. The expected harvest will definitely be less than expected average.  Please pray for the harvest and that enough food will be provided.
