Developments in Malawi

 
 

This is a list of FVM’s current developments in Malawi:

  1. Nursery school rehabilitation complete with additional washing, cooking and strage facility.

  2. Facility opened on September 13th, 2010 with 450 children arriving.

  3. Average daily attendance since then has been over 400 with each child being served a hot meal of protein fortified maize meal ( Likhuni Phala).

  4. Farming initiative begun with maize,soya and cowpeas being grown to reduce the demand on purchasing food for the children.Volunteers have been trained through a program operated by SAFE, a Malawian NGO .

 
  1. 150,000 bricks have been handmade in the villages and baked ready for further development as decided by the stakeholders.

  2. A further agreement has been reached with QECH (hospital) and BICO (Blantyre Institute for community Ophthalmology) to provide eyeglasses as needed for all children in the 21 villages of Taulo region.

  3. Further rotations of Medical Residents and Optometry Interns have taken place at QECH in Blantyre.

  4. Secondary School and Post Secondary Scholarship Funds have been expanded.

  5. Newton Sindo is completing a diploma course in business management at Chancellor College at the University of Malawi.

  6. Bednetting has been completed for 1,500 children in the region as an anti-malaria initiative.
